This exhibit was inspired by a bequest from past DAMV President, Norm Collins. Mr. Collins wanted the Ag Museum to have his entire collection of trains, which were mostly Agriculture related.
Come see the result of a collaboration that included train donors, Norm & Suzanne Collins; Ed Kee, Secretary of Agriculture, the First State Model Railroad Club; the DE Department of Agriculture Forestry Division; Kund & Associates; and the DAMV Board of Directors and staff.
The First State Model Railroad Club President, Jim Thompson, was asked if their club would take on the project, and they kindly accepted. The train display platform was made out of wood harvested in Delaware by Franny Cole & Robert Ragin, employees of the DE Department of Forestry. Secretary of Agriculture, Ed Kee, identified the farms and train stations in all 3 counties that would be highlighted along the state of Delaware. In all, there are 12 farms (4 in each county) and 9 train stations (3 in each county) included in this amazing display. The First State Model Railroad Club then took on the task of creating in great detail the homesteads and the train stations, and installing the track and trains.
To see which farms and train stations were selected and what they produced, stop by the Museum and take a look. You’ll also learn how important the railroad was to Delaware farmers.
