Year-round opportunities, both long and short term, are available.

All volunteers are interviewed and trained by our staff to help the Museum preserve the agricultural heritage of Delmarva.  Please contact us if you want to make a difference and leave your mark in history!

Volunteer Positions:

  • Tour Guides for School Groups and General Public:
    historical site interpreters in period clothing bring history alive by relating the history of the village buildings and exhibits for Museum visitors
  • Special Event Helpers:
    volunteers help prepare for annual spring, summer, fall, or Christmas events (i.e. Old Dover Days’ Parade, Trick or Treating in the Village, Farmer’s Christmas).
  • Historic Building Care:
    routine maintenance, cleaning, and upkeep of Village buildings.
  • Fundraising:
    assist with the Flea market/Auction, Dinner Banquet/Auction and other benefit events.
  • Visitor Services:
    greet and assist visitors with admissions, information and Museum store purchases; answering phone.
  • Grounds Keeping:
    trimming, mowing, weeding.
  • Oral History:
    collecting historic information through interviews.
  • Gardening:
    caring for the flower, herb, or vegetable gardens.
  • Library Assistant:
    helping with archival cataloging and filing.
  • Secretarial:
    typing, filing, and other office duties.
  • Public Relations:
    distributing Museum promotional information.
  • Demonstrators:
    teaching and illustrating a 19th-century craft.
  • Curatorial Assistant:
    help with cataloging and research collections.
  • General Maintenance & Repair:
    carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work.
  • Musician:
    Playing an instrument, singing for special events.
  • Special Project
